THE MUSEUM OF ME

I love the written word. One of my most favourite things in the word - books! Children's books, text books, novels...books of all kinds. I also love museums. My favourite one so far is the Dog Museum in NYC. I digress.

I just stumbled upon a book "The Museum of Me" by Emma Lewis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D_YvvTJM4jk .

It talks of different types of museums and what is held, stored and displayed in them- some old, some very new, some odd things, treasures brought back, music, art and creativity and leads to "the museum I know best- the museum of me"!

It made me ponder if in fact I knew "my museum", of what in it and where its from and how its come to be held inside of me.

Perhaps it is a good analogy of the work in therapy. To be curious about the "museum of me" and explore.

  • What parts of self created what museums and what is stored where?

  • How old or young was that part that brought things into a given museum or a wing of the museum? Are additions being made to room deliberate and intentional or just habit?

  • What museums exist? What rooms exist in my museum?

  • What's on display in the museum of treasures?

  • What is in the room of hope and dreams? How big is it?

  • What is in the house of horrors?

  • Is there a room I fear to go into? What does that hold?

  • Is there an armoury with my shields, armours, weapons of defence, self protection?

  • Is there a room with tombs of grief?

  • Is there a blueprint for a room I'd like to build?

  • I hope there is a room or museum of joy - that is filled with small and large things

  • What are all the rooms?

May be worth asking

Do I walk through all rooms with the same curiosity?

Are there some that require attention but I find it hard to stay in?

What are my favourite bits?

Are there parts I'd rather skip?

Could I make an artwork or a collage of a "Museum of me" and start exploring.... and meet with different parts of me - meet them with curiosity and compassion... and spend some time.
